The Registered Nurse (RN) uses Parkland’s nursing professional practice model to coordinate care delivery for a defined patient population with the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses based on their responses to health problems, develops and implements individualized plans of care, and evaluates patient responses. The RN helps patients move through their healthcare encounters without preventable complications or delays and delegates interventions in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies. In the Medicine Progressive Care Unit, the RN provides patient-centered nursing care in accordance with applicable standards, protocols, multidisciplinary plans of care, and the State of Texas Nurse Practice Act. The RN assesses and monitors patients, responds to changes in condition, administers medications safely, manages IV access, performs point-of-care monitoring, supports pain management, and provides emergency resuscitation care when needed. The position also involves patient and family education, accurate documentation, collaboration with providers and other team members, and maintaining current nursing knowledge and licensure.
