St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota is expanding its Float Pool and seeking Registered Nurses to provide care across multiple hospital units. Float Pool RNs take full patient-care assignments and support units including Cardiac Telemetry, General Medical/Surgical, Orthopedics, and Oncology. The role primarily floats to Cardiac Telemetry, caring for a range of cardiac patients, including patients recovering from procedures such as open-heart transplant, coronary bypass surgery, and stent placement. Orientation is based in the Medical Surgical units. Nurses float to each unit with a preceptor, and the overall and unit-specific orientation periods are determined by experience. After six months, there is an option to train in specialty areas such as the Emergency Room, ICU, and MCC. The position includes tele monitoring, IV therapies, care for postoperative and medical-surgical patients, and accessing port-a-caths, PICCs, and feeding tubes. Opportunities are available to obtain Med/Surg, Ortho, and Chemo certifications. The RN coordinates care for a group of patients and leads the interdependent care team in achieving patient and unit outcomes. The role applies the nursing process and patient-care principles, communicates with patients, families, physicians, and care-team members, and contributes to quality, safety, patient-experience, and department goals. The position is 0.7 FTE (56 hours every two weeks), with 8-hour night shifts on a variable schedule, an every-other-weekend rotation, and a holiday rotation. It is eligible for an additional $2 per hour.
