About The Position

St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota is expanding its Float Pool and is seeking Registered Nurses to provide patient care across multiple hospital units. The Float Pool supports care throughout the hospital, with assignments that may include Cardiac Telemetry, General Medical/Surgical, Orthopedics, Oncology, and other areas. Nurses primarily float to Cardiac Telemetry and care for patients including those recovering from cardiac procedures. Orientation begins in Medical/Surgical units and includes unit-specific experience with a preceptor; orientation length depends on the nurse’s experience. After six months, there is an option to train in specialty areas such as the ER, ICU, and MCC. The position involves full patient-care assignments and duties such as telemetry monitoring, IV therapies, care for postoperative and medical-surgical patients, and accessing port-a-caths, PICCs, and feeding tubes. Opportunities are available to obtain certifications in areas such as Medical/Surgical, Orthopedics, and Chemo. The role suits a flexible, learning-oriented nurse who can problem-solve in a fast-paced environment and is committed to patient-first care. The RN coordinates care for a group of patients as the key leader of an interdependent team. The nurse assesses patient and family needs, identifies outcomes, establishes and monitors plans of care, and modifies those plans as needed. The role applies the nursing process and relevant nursing theories and practice standards, communicates with patients, families, physicians, and the care team, and develops individualized patient and family education plans. The nurse also contributes to clinical and operational improvements and department goals, supports collaborative teamwork, and follows applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, safety and infection-control practices, policies, and procedures. The schedule is 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks), working 8-hour night shifts on a variable schedule, with every-other-weekend and holiday rotations. The position is eligible for an additional $2 per hour. Fairview offers a nurse residency program for eligible new graduate RNs.
