The Clinical Nurse works in a 21-room, 24-bed Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) Birthing Pavilion that averages approximately 1,300 deliveries annually. About 55% of patients are high-risk and receive care through the Maternal-Fetal Medicine service. The unit receives transports from New Hampshire, Southern Vermont, and occasionally Maine, and offers midwifery and generalist physician services. Care includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, normal newborn, and focused newborn services, as well as patient triage in a two-bed triage room. The unit has two operating rooms; staff are trained in perioperative care, including circulating and scribing, and provide Post-Anesthesia Care Unit services. The team collaborates with the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiovascular Critical Care, Main Operating Room, and the nearby Intensive Care Nursery/NICU to provide specialized care for pregnant and postpartum patients. This is a full-time position involving three 12-hour shifts on a day/night rotation (7 a.m.–7 p.m. or 7 p.m.–7 a.m.). Weekends and holidays are included. The Clinical Nurse is an engaged, credentialed member of the Professional Nursing Organization. The nurse practices autonomously according to the professional tenets of practitioner, leader/decision maker, scientist, and transferor. The role uses the nursing process to provide evidence-based care and continually monitor and evaluate practice to support safe patient care in the best interest of the populations served.
