The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through assessment, identification of nursing problems, implementation, and evaluation. The role collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient care and desired patient outcomes. When oriented and directed, the nurse serves as a resource nurse. The position supports the organization’s mission, vision, and values; incorporates patients’ age, cultural diversity, spiritual needs, and emotional needs into care; and contributes to quality nursing care through performance-improvement techniques that demonstrate positive patient outcomes. The role is classified as safety sensitive. Unity Health defines a safety-sensitive position as one in which impaired performance could harm the health or safety of the employee or others. Associates actively using medical marijuana are excluded from employment in safety-sensitive positions, even if they have a valid medical marijuana card. The position involves considerable physical work, including assisting with lifting and moving patients, pushing carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment, and lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds. The nurse must bend to perform duties, move throughout halls, stairways, and patient rooms during hospital emergencies, and travel to various departments. The role requires visual and auditory skills, significant writing and computer entry, and exposure to malodorous infectious body fluids and, minimally, noxious smells from cleansing agents. Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may require gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles. The schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts and every other weekend.
