The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, planning outcomes, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized patient care. The role collaborates with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care, and practices within the scope of nursing expertise using standards appropriate to the clinical setting and patient population. The RN supports patients throughout preventive care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, and is responsible for care planning and coordination, assessment, education, triage, and other nursing interventions. Practice must comply with the Nurse Practice Act and applicable administrative rules in the state of practice and licensure, as well as Sanford’s professional nursing practice standards. The position is based in a 16-bed Neuro Intensive Care Unit within a Level 1 trauma hospital and Comprehensive Stroke Center. The unit cares for patients with critical neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, and patients requiring external ventricular or lumbar drains for intracranial pressure management. The multidisciplinary team provides continuous neurological monitoring and acute assessments, and offers interventions including subarachnoid hemorrhage management through coiling, clipping, diverting, and vasospasm control. Care is evidence-based and patient-centered in a technologically advanced, fast-paced environment.
