About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) works in Mary Brigh 8DE, a high-acuity Neurology/Neurology Surgery intensive and progressive care unit. The unit cares for adult critically ill and neurologically impaired medical, surgical, and trauma patients, including patients with head or spinal cord trauma and patients undergoing a wide variety of surgical procedures. It also supports patients and families during organ donation. Unit-specific high-risk procedures include intracranial monitoring and unstable spinal cord stabilization. Care also uses prolonged EEG and brachial plexus monitoring technology. The unit admits approximately 150 new patients per month and has 18 beds. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, the RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients. The RN provides leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement; delegates care based on staff skill and experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources; and may contribute to committees or projects. The interdisciplinary team includes physicians, nurses, patient care assistants, health unit coordinators, respiratory therapists, social workers, chaplains, rehabilitation therapists, dietitians, and nursing specialists. The Mayo nursing care model is used. New graduate nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program, which is designed to support new graduate RNs. This position is eligible for TN sponsorship, subject to state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification. A subset of employees may need to drive a personal vehicle as part of the role.
