About The Position

Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides nursing care to an assigned group of patients based on matching patient needs with the nurse’s competencies. The nurse completes established position competencies within the designated introductory period and performs other related duties as assigned. This position is in Med Surg and may qualify for a sign-on bonus.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Texas State Registered Nurse license.
• Active healthcare provider Basic Life Support certification on hire from ARC or AHA; AHA Healthcare Provider BLS must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• No minimum experience required for Med Surg.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Two years of acute care experience for Med Surg.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients’ responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems, including those of their families and/or significant others.
• Develop a patient care plan based on the initial assessment, implement and continually evaluate interventions, and reassess patient needs on an ongoing basis.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and appropriately use unit resources, the chain of command, and the Rapid Response Team.
• Document care plans and all care provided.
• Identify patient and family education needs and provide individualized instruction using written materials and other available resources.
• Assign nursing care to licensed staff, delegate care to unlicensed staff, and coordinate workflow.
• Calculate and administer medications.
• Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members in planning and managing patient care.
• Participate in discharge planning and provide instructions to patients and families.
• Maintain and promote professional standards and development by participating in in-services, committees, and staff meetings.
