About The Position

Inova Schar Cancer Institute is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide phone triage and clinical support for its oncology clinics. This is a fully remote PRN role. Remote employees must currently reside in VA, MD, DC, DE, FL, GA, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, or WV. The position works Monday through Friday, either 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The Cancer Institutes are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; they are closed on weekends, and the role has no night shifts or on-call hours.

The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable, caring clinical practice and care coordination by understanding patients, families, nurses, and healthcare delivery teams. The nurse provides safe, therapeutic, holistic, and systematic care in a patient- and family-centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills, and experience to meet patient and family needs throughout the care continuum, including education. The role requires effective communication and cooperation with other clinical disciplines and determining care delivery processes through direct patient and family communication, technology, and collaboration with healthcare team members. The position reports to the Clinical Director.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
• BSN from an accredited school of nursing; if the RN has an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), they must complete a BSN within 5 years of the start date.
• BLS certification.
• Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of employment.
• Proficiency in English.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to display a caring demeanor toward others.
• Proficient computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• Previous oncology experience strongly preferred.
• Previous chemotherapy infusion experience strongly preferred.
• PRN availability for 2–3 days per week, Monday through Friday, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform biopsychosocial assessments on patients.
• Provide medications and treatments to patients.
• Serve as a resource for patients and families regarding medical questions.
• Develop plans of care.
• Work with the interdisciplinary team to assist adult patients in meeting treatment goals.
• Provide patient and family education throughout the continuum of care.
• Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic, holistic, and patient- and family-centered care.
