About The Position

The acute Inpatient Pain Service (IPS) Registered Nurse works collaboratively with Anesthesia and Pain Medicine residents, fellows, and consultants to manage post-surgical pain catheters and acute pain needs across various surgical populations at RMC and SMC. IPS RNs are the primary contact for calls related to the acute pain service during their shift. They coordinate pain management among stakeholders, assess patients in locations including the PACU and patient care units, provide continuity on the team, and lead rounds with consultants and residents or fellows. Patient, family, anesthesia resident, and interdisciplinary team education about pain management is a core part of the role. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The role also provides leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement; delegates care according to skill, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and available resources; and may participate in committees or projects. New graduate nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program posting. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
