Registered Nurse Med Surg Float Pool
About The Position
The Registered Nurse will provide nursing care across a range of specialties at Ascension Saint Thomas West, including Neurology, Orthopedics, Oncology, Observation, Pulmonary Post Thoracic Surgery, Renal Dialysis, Vascular, and Medical Telemetry. This position floats between the facility’s different Med Surg units and is scheduled PRN on nights. The nurse implements complex care plans, monitors patient conditions, communicates with the broader medical team, and coordinates care among physicians, therapists, and specialists. Responsibilities also include carrying out orders for specialized patient populations and assessing and coordinating discharge and care needs while advocating for patients in changing clinical environments.
Requirements
- Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- Hold a Tennessee Registered Nurse license or a current home-state license recognized under the Nurse Licensure Compact before hire or job transfer.
- Have a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing, or the required professional licensure at the time of hire.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care across Neurology, Orthopedics, Oncology, Observation, Pulmonary Post Thoracic Surgery, Renal Dialysis, Vascular, and Medical Telemetry units.
- Implement complex care plans and monitor patient conditions.
- Communicate with the broader medical team and coordinate care among physicians, therapists, and specialists.
- Carry out orders for specialized patient populations, including post-thoracic recovery, renal, and pulmonary care.
- Assess and coordinate discharge and other care needs.
- Advocate for patients in changing clinical environments.
- Float between the different Med Surg units at Ascension Saint Thomas West.
