The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized patient care. The role collaborates with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The RN practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and applies age- and population-specific standards appropriate to the clinical setting. The position provides care across preventive care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Responsibilities include coordinating care, assessing and educating patients, triage, and other nursing interventions, while following the Nurse Practice Act and applicable administrative rules in the state of practice and licensure. Sanford’s Intermediate Care Unit is a 16-bed specialty unit caring for patients who need frequent monitoring and advanced interventions but do not require critical-care intensity. Patients may be recovering from TAVR or other surgeries, experiencing acute but stable STEMIs or Non-STEMIs, receiving care with secured airways on ventilators or low-dose vasopressors, or recovering from strokes, traumatic injuries, or detoxification.
