Registered Nurse - RN- Full time - Night Shift (6PM-6AM)
About The Position
Horizon Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join its team at Abbeville General Hospital in Abbeville, Louisiana. The position is in a 16-bed inpatient psychiatric unit serving adults ages 18 and older. The nurse provides comprehensive psychiatric nursing care, assessing, monitoring, recording, and reporting symptoms or changes in patients’ conditions. Duties include maintaining accurate patient reports and medical histories, performing mental and physical assessments, administering medications and treatments, assisting patients with daily activities, and observing their responses. The nurse also helps manage the therapeutic milieu through daily groups, education, and individual patient interactions, and collaborates with the treatment team to support patient care. This is a full-time night-shift position, with hours from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Requirements
- Active and unrestricted RN license.
- 1–3 years of nursing experience.
- CPR, BLS, and ACLS certifications.
- Crisis prevention experience.

- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
Responsibilities
- Complete an initial nursing assessment within 24 hours of admission, according to facility policy, and routinely reassess patients during their stay.
- Complete individualized treatment plans for each patient.
- Plan, implement, and coordinate nursing care activities for patients.
- Conduct therapies in accordance with each patient’s diagnosis and needs.
- Carry out treatment interventions according to physician orders, including medication administration and medical treatment orders.
- Perform medication reconciliation.
- Follow voluntary and involuntary procedures and processes.
- Explain patients’ nursing and treatment needs to assigned nonclinical staff.
- Protect patient dignity and respect patient values.
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patients, families, and friends.
- Manage therapeutic milieu activities, including daily groups, education, and one-to-one patient interactions.
- Collaborate with other members of the treatment team.
