RN - Registered Nurse - Med Surg - Multiple Shifts
About The Position
The Registered Nurse will work in 3 West, a 32-bed acute care medical-surgical unit at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. The unit cares for patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including stroke, and offers nurses the opportunity to build foundational skills. The hospital holds Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission, reflecting its commitment to high-quality, evidence-based stroke care in a supportive environment. The nurse provides direct care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s policies, procedures, and protocols; implements and monitors patient care plans; documents and communicates patient conditions; coordinates care across disciplines; carries out physician and nursing orders; and works with the healthcare team on discharge planning. Full-time and part-time schedules are available for day or night shifts. A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available for full-time positions. Benefits are available to eligible positions only.
Requirements
- Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing and professional licensure at the time of hire.
- Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Serve as a primary coordinator across disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient discharge-planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
