The Care Team registered nurse (RN) works in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Primary Care. The RN coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The role includes visit and non-visit interactions with patients and their supporting care providers, and requires communication and collaboration with providers and other Care Team members. Primary Care services address existing medical needs, preventive care, acute care, and chronic health-condition management. Care is delivered through provider or nurse visits, telehealth, and web-based care. Primary Care locations offer a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where RNs work with an interdisciplinary team and build ongoing relationships with patients and care providers. The RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, following Mayo Clinic’s Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN supports professional nursing practice across settings and throughout the continuum of care, provides leadership through precepting and other leadership roles and quality improvement efforts, and delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The RN may also participate in committees or projects and is expected to demonstrate strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification. New graduate nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program posting.
