About The Position

St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota is expanding its Float Pool and seeks Registered Nurses to provide patient care across a variety of hospital units. Float Pool RNs take full care assignments and may work in Cardiac Telemetry, General Medical/Surgical, Orthopedics, Oncology, and other units. The role offers exposure to diverse clinical environments and patient populations. Nurses primarily float to the Cardiac Telemetry unit, caring for patients including those recovering from cardiac procedures such as open-heart transplant, coronary bypass surgery, and stent placement. Orientation is based in the Medical Surgical units. Nurses work with a preceptor in each unit, and the length of overall and unit-specific orientation depends on experience. After six months, there is an option to train in specialty areas such as the Emergency Room, ICU, and MCC. Duties may include telemetry monitoring, IV therapies, care for postoperative and medical-surgical patients, and accessing port-a-caths, PICCs, and feeding tubes. Opportunities to obtain Med/Surg, Ortho, and Chemo certifications are available. The RN is a key leader of the interdependent care team and coordinates care for a group of patients to achieve patient and unit outcomes. The role includes assessing patient and family needs, setting outcomes, establishing and monitoring plans of care, and modifying plans as needed. The RN applies the nursing process, communicates with patients, families, physicians and care teams, supports patient and family education, contributes to point-of-care improvements, and follows applicable clinical, regulatory, safety, infection-control, and professional standards. This position is 0.9 FTE (72 hours every two weeks), with eight-hour night shifts on a variable schedule, every-other-weekend rotation, and holiday rotation.
