About The Position

Hospice of North Alabama is seeking an on-call Registered Nurse based in Florence, Alabama, covering Franklin, Winston, Marion, and Fayette counties. The schedule is seven days on and seven days off. The RN provides hands-on hospice care to patients and support to their families during after-hours, collaborating with the Remote Triage On Call Team. The role involves responding to urgent needs, helping patients and families understand the patient’s condition and what to expect, and providing care in homes or facilities. Hospice of North Alabama provides hospice services tailored to the needs of patients and families, with a focus on care in the home.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
Current licensure to practice in the state of operation.
At least one year of nursing experience.
Knowledge of the hospice philosophy of care.
Commitment to clinical and documentation excellence.
Licensed driver with an automobile insured according to state or organization requirements and in good working order.

Nice To Haves

Three or more years of nursing experience preferred.
Experience in hospice or a similar setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Remote Triage On Call Team to provide hands-on care to hospice patients and support their families after hours.
Assess and manage urgent symptoms promptly and compassionately.
Administer medication or adjust care according to hospice protocols or provider orders.
Communicate changes in a patient’s condition to the physician and obtain orders as needed.
Guide and support patients and families in understanding the patient’s current condition and anticipating next steps.
When a death occurs during on-call hours, go to the home or facility to pronounce the death, support the family, contact the funeral home, and notify the hospice team.
Complete timely documentation and communication.
