The professional nurse in critical care uses the nursing process to plan, implement, evaluate, and document patient care. Care considers patients’ physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, language, age, teaching, and readiness-to-learn needs. The nurse involves the interdisciplinary team in care planning and interventions. The RN II independently cares for two critically ill patients and manages most patient acuity levels, including patients on ventilators. The role requires understanding basic dysrhythmias and hemodynamic status and correlating readings with the patient’s care. The RN II assists with bedside procedures, administers physician-prescribed medications according to policy, practices autonomously, anticipates professional responsibilities, accepts accountability for professional actions, and uses critical thinking in daily practice. This is a full-time ICU position on the night shift, with hours of 1900–0730 and six shifts per two-week pay period. Some weekends are required. A sign-on bonus of up to $25,000 is offered based on experience.
