About The Position

The Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse provides direct patient care and patient education in an outpatient setting. In the GI Endoscopy practice on Alfred 6, the RN cares for adult patients and may cross-cover when patient needs require it. In Intake, the RN completes a focused history and patient assessment, provides education about endoscopic procedures, and reviews medical history, medications, and allergies to determine whether the patient can proceed with the scheduled procedure. In Recovery, the RN monitors patients after anesthesia and continues physiologic monitoring until discharge criteria are met. The RN collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members and coordinates nursing care, including direct care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN plans, implements, evaluates, and communicates all phases of care for assigned patients within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The role includes leadership through precepting, formal or informal leadership, and quality improvement; delegating patient care according to staff capability, patient acuity, accountability, and available resources; and potentially participating in committees or projects. This is a fast-paced, highly unpredictable environment requiring attention to detail, critical thinking, time management, multitasking, autonomy, adaptability, and comfort managing multiple computer applications. RNs are trained to interpret ECG rhythms and are expected to obtain ACLS certification within their first 3–6 months of employment. A subset of employees may need to drive a personal vehicle as part of the role. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship, subject to state licensure and VisaScreen or equivalent certification. New graduate nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program.
