About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (Level 1 or 2) on the Adult Nursing Med/Surg Flex/Float Team at the University of Rochester. It is a full-time position with rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) of 8 and 12 hours, requiring flexibility. The role involves providing care to med/surg patients across 12 diverse units, supporting all units while gaining expertise with various patient populations. This dynamic position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and demands strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills. Extensive orientation is provided, and new graduates are welcomed. New Graduates (Level 1) are eligible for the med/surg Residency Program, designed to assist novice graduate nurses in transitioning to competent professional nurses. This requires less than one year of prior acute care experience and a two-year commitment upon program completion. Responsibilities

  • Functions as a new graduate nurse with less than one year of experience.
  • Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, continues to build competency in the provision of direct patient care.
  • Contributes to unit activities and supports enhancement of the care delivery system at the unit level.
  • Supports peers in the delivery of patient care services.
  • Responsible for the care of med/surg patients across 12 diverse units.
  • Supports all units while gaining expertise with a variety of patient populations.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
