About The Position

UPMC Shadyside is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse for its 20-bed Medical ICU, the largest of the hospital’s intensive care units. The unit primarily cares for critically ill medical oncology, cardiac, and post-stem-cell-transplant patients and also receives overflow patients from other hospital areas. Nurses may encounter bedside tracheostomies and bronchoscopies and use ventilators, vasopressors, and CRRT machines. The unit is team-oriented and can be hectic, making it a rewarding environment for nurses who can think on their feet, meet challenges, and solve problems. UPMC Shadyside is a Magnet-designated teaching hospital with ongoing research and education. UPMC describes a nursing career ladder with growth opportunities from Professional Staff Nurse to Expert Nurse and beyond. Compensation is tailored to qualifications and individual preferences; the final job title and pay rate depend on individual qualifications and candidate choice. Starting pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $37.00. The posting offers a $15,000 sign-on bonus to registered nurses with at least one year of RN experience. The role involves relationship-based, holistic patient care; patient and family education; effective communication and documentation; collaboration with colleagues and care providers; and participation in professional growth, shared governance, and quality improvement. Candidates should be able to work effectively amid changing priorities and use critical thinking and sound clinical judgment to provide quality care. Physical stamina is required for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
