About The Position

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for its 30-bed medical-surgical Orthopedics unit (4100). The unit primarily cares for patients after elective surgeries, including hip and knee replacements, and also receives Magee’s post-operative bariatric surgery patients and overflow general medical-surgical patients. It is a patient-centered rehabilitative environment where nurses are directly involved in rehabilitation and care. Specialty equipment used on the unit includes continuous passive motion machines and bed trapezes. The Professional Staff Nurse provides competent patient care and treatment with empathy and a commitment to learning. The role calls for independent judgment and effective communication, while building partnerships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and families to support patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. As a member of the care delivery team, the nurse sets standards for the level and quality of nursing care and is accountable for its provision. UPMC offers a bedside nursing career ladder, with potential progression to Expert Nurse and beyond. Final title and pay rate depend on individual qualifications and candidate choice. Required certifications and contributions tied to a job title will be given a timeframe to obtain. RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule for 24/7 floor coverage, with shifts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The role includes rotating weekends and holidays; hours and travel may change based on business needs.
