About The Position

The Registered Nurse delivers patient care using the nursing process: collecting data and assessing patients, identifying and prioritizing problems and needs, and evaluating the process and outcomes of care. The nurse coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching and coordinates care delivered by health team members. Working with the interdisciplinary care team, the nurse conducts initial and ongoing assessments, analyzes assessment data, develops and implements plans of care, and evaluates treatment effectiveness. The role includes safely administering medications in accordance with state-of-practice requirements and organizational policies, coordinating patients’ care across hospital departments, advocating for patient safety through departmental quality improvement, and incorporating the professional practice model into care delivery.

Requirements

Valid nursing license from the state of practice.
Associate of Nursing degree or Diploma in Nursing.
BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH; it is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations.
Knowledge of contemporary nursing practice and future innovations.
Nursing judgment and skill based on biological, physical, behavioral, and social sciences.
Ability to apply the nursing process in patient care delivery and coordinate care.
Ability to evaluate professional nursing practice to optimize goals and outcomes.
Skills in health teaching, health promotion, patient advocacy, and partnership.
Interprofessional collaboration and leadership skills.
Understanding and utilization of office and clinical technologies.

Responsibilities
