The RN Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in accordance with the organization’s patient-care standards, including standards for patient assessment and transfer. Depending on the hiring tier, the nurse must be available and flexible to float among departments and sites within the organization’s markets. Assignments may include day-of staffing, multiple locations during one shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. The nurse works as part of the healthcare team in cooperation with and under the direction of a clinical manager or designee, consistent with the applicable Registered Nurse standards and scope of practice. Float expectations depend on tier: Tier 1 covers a single site based on competency; Tier 2 covers multiple sites within one market based on competency; and Tier 3 covers multiple sites across more than one market based on competency. The role supports departmental and operating-unit goals, participates in continuous quality improvement, and advocates for patient safety. The nurse incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery, uses available evidence in nursing care and clinical decisions, and formulates, implements, evaluates, and documents an appropriate plan of care for each patient.
