The Registered Nurse (RN) Clinical Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in accordance with the organization’s established patient care standards, including patient assessment and transfer standards. The role is primarily responsible for being available and flexible to float to departments and sites throughout the organization’s markets to provide patient care. Depending on hiring tier, assignments may include day-of staffing, multiple locations during a single shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. The RN works as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of a clinical manager or designee, consistent with the relevant Standards and Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses. Float expectations are based on tier: Tier 1 floats within a single site based on competency; Tier 2 floats across multiple sites within a single market based on competency; and Tier 3 floats across multiple sites in more than one market based on competency. The RN supports organizational and departmental goals, participates in quality improvement and departmental activities, advocates for patient safety, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery. The RN uses available evidence to plan nursing care and clinical decisions, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, evaluates responses to interventions, and documents care as appropriate to the patient’s condition and age.
