The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department Float Pool assesses, analyzes, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in accordance with the organization’s patient care standards, including standards for patient assessment and transfer. The role’s primary function, based on hiring tier, is to remain available and flexible to provide care in assigned departments and locations across the organization’s markets. Assignments may include same-day staffing needs, multiple locations during one shift, travel assignments, and seasonal staffing patterns. The RN works as part of the health care team under the direction of a clinical manager or designee and within the applicable Standards and Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses. Float expectations depend on tier: Tier 1 covers a single site, Tier 2 multiple sites within one market, and Tier 3 multiple sites across more than one market, all based on competency. The RN supports departmental and organizational goals through quality improvement and departmental activities, advocates for patient safety, and incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery. The RN plans and coordinates nursing care using available evidence, develops and implements individual plans of care, evaluates patient responses to interventions, and documents care as appropriate to the patient’s condition and age. Additional job-related duties may be assigned by a supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation.
