About The Position

Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit and coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Delivers individualized, age-specific, direct bedside nursing care based on the nursing process and patient needs. Supervises by assessing, planning, delegating, and using independent judgment to direct other healthcare employees in providing patient care. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice to identify patient goals, participates in hourly rounding, and follows safety guidelines and safe work practices. May be asked to serve in charge of a shift. The role involves assessing patients’ needs, establishing nursing diagnoses and outcome goals, individualizing and implementing plans of care, and coordinating with patients, families, and other care providers. The position is at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, a 217-bed hospital serving the Glendale community and providing services including obstetrics and emergency care.

Requirements

Nursing degree from an accredited nursing school.
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Arizona.
CPR certification.
ACLS upon completion of orientation for Labor & Delivery.
NRP upon completion of orientation for postpartum, nursery, and Labor & Delivery.
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with team members.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional periods of above-average pressure.
Excellent customer service skills.
Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
One year of acute care experience.
Certification in the specialty area of practice.
For Labor & Delivery: Advanced Fetal Monitoring, or obtain it within six months of hire.
For PACU: PALS preferred.
For Level II EQ: At least two years of current Level III NICU experience, including neonatal ventilator experience.
For bariatrics: Certification or specialized training in the bariatrics specialty area of practice.
For wound care: Wound-Ostomy Certification or training in wound care and/or ostomy care.
For PACU: ACLS, or obtain it within six months of hire.
For ER: PALS or ENPC, or obtain one within ninety days.

Responsibilities

Assess patients’ physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, cultural, safety/risk, and discharge-planning needs on admission and on an ongoing basis.
Determine nursing diagnoses based on patient assessment and data analysis.
Set practical, realistic, and appropriate patient-population-specific outcome goals; incorporate patient and family input when appropriate and guide patients toward achieving goals.
Individualize each patient’s plan of care based on patient needs and circumstantial or procedural complexities.
Implement nursing and medical orders and ensure they are appropriate to the patient’s current status.
Coordinate care planning with other disciplines and provide individualized, age-specific bedside nursing care.
Assess, plan, and delegate care, using independent judgment to direct other healthcare employees in the provision of patient care.
Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice to identify patient goals.
Participate in hourly rounding and observe safety guidelines and safe work practices.
May serve as the person in charge for assigned shifts.
Perform other tasks assigned at the hospital.
