About The Position

This is a 13-week contract position for a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The unit sees high acuity cases including injury, respiratory failure, shock, multi-system failure, poisonings, near drowning, meningitis, post-operative cardiac surgical care, and neurosurgery. The role functions at the Standard Level of nursing practice. The hospital is recognized as one of the Top 10 Best Children's Hospitals in the Nation by U.S News & World Report, is Magnet Recognized, holds a Beacon Award for Excellence, is a teaching facility, Great Place To Work Certified, and a Level 1 trauma center. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1-2. Charting is done in Epic. Free traveler parking is available.

Requirements

CA license
2 full years of recent independent PICU experience (PICU experience must be within the last year, and not including orientation time).
Experience with at least a 10-bed PICU unit.
BLS certification
PALS certification
Experience with ventilators and multiple monitors, specifically CVP and EKG.
Must work 2 of the following 3 holidays (including Eves): Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's.
Must be available to work weekends with full flexibility to be scheduled when needed.
Must have 7 days RTO max, need to still get in 3 shifts that week.

Nice To Haves

Prefers at least 1 travel assignment, however, will consider 1st timer if strong experience.

Responsibilities

Provide care at the Standard Level of nursing practice.
Work with high acuity cases including injury, respiratory failure, shock, multi-system failure, poisonings, near drowning, meningitis, post-operative cardiac surgical care, and neurosurgery.
Work variable shifts (D/N or straight nights).
Work 2 of the following 3 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's (including Eves).
Be flexible to work holidays as needed by the unit.
Work weekends with full flexibility to be scheduled when needed.
Float between units (CVPICU & NICU) as needed.
Float within scope to meet facility needs.
Operate ventilators and multiple monitors, specifically CVP and EKG.
