About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) working nights for 36 hours per week. It requires one year of experience, and first-time travelers are welcome. Candidates with only one year of experience will require manager review for an offer. The role requires floating within OSU and working every other weekend (Friday & Saturday nights). The unit is a corrections unit for Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates, is locked, and requires access from a Corrections Officer (CO) to enter. Patients admitted to this unit have active oncology diagnoses/treatments (solid tumor and hematology), are admitted for oncology workup, or have a history of cancer but are admitted for other reasons such as surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, abnormal labs, or pneumonia. Patients without an oncology diagnosis may also be admitted for the reasons listed above.

Requirements

1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
BLS certification.
ACLS certification.
Previous telemetry experience.
Experience with IV insulin protocols and insulin drips.
Strong cardiac monitoring skills.
Strong dysrhythmia interpretation skills.

Profiles of candidates with only 1 year of experience will need to be reviewed by the manager.

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
Float within OSU as required.
Work every other weekend (Friday & Saturday nights).
Administer care to patients with active oncology diagnoses/treatments, those admitted for oncology workup, or those with a history of cancer admitted for other reasons.
Care for patients without an oncology diagnosis admitted for reasons such as surgical procedures, COPD, sepsis, abnormal labs, or pneumonia.
Monitor patients requiring strong cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation.
Manage patients on IV insulin protocols and insulin drips.
