About The Position

This is a 24-bed Intermediate Care Unit (PCU) that handles intermediate medical patients and surgery overflow. The unit is fast-paced and crucial for patient throughput from the Emergency Department and Operating Room. The role requires flexibility, as nurses may be expected to float within their scope to other departments, units, and facilities as needed. Weekend shifts and charge nurse assignments are part of the role. The hospital is a 5-time Magnet Award winner, a teaching hospital, and a Level 1 Trauma Center with 456 total staffed beds. Requirements

  • 1 to 2 years of Telemetry Experience Required
  • BLS certification
  • NIHSS certification
  • Cardiac Monitoring skills
  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Management of dysrhythmias

  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • IV insulin protocols

Responsibilities

  • Provide intermediate care to medical patients.
  • Manage patients with surgical overflow conditions (e.g., TURPS, lap chol, lap appy, lap hernia, eye surgery, oral surgery).
  • Perform diabetic teaching and wound care.
  • Ensure patient throughput from ED and OR.
  • Interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
  • Monitor patients via telemetry.
  • Utilize Rapid Response Teams.
  • Manage feeding tube care.
  • Perform Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI).
  • Administer IV medications, including heparin protocols and PCA.
  • Administer blood products.
  • Manage central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral lines.
  • Start IVs and access ports.
  • Provide wound care, including wound vacs.
  • Adhere to isolation precautions.
  • Float between departments, units, and facilities as needed.
  • Work weekend shifts as required.
  • Take on Charge RN assignments as needed.
