About The Position

This is a 26-week travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Plattsburgh, NY. The role involves providing direct patient care to adult PCU patients with acute cardiac and post-procedure needs. Responsibilities include monitoring telemetry, administering medications, starting IVs, assisting with post-cath care, and documenting in the electronic medical record (EPIC). The nurse will collaborate with the care team, maintain a 3:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, respond to alarms, and participate in the unit’s float plan when assigned. Orientation is 1-2 days, and Epic experience is required. NIHSS is required prior to start, and a NY RN license or active application is necessary.

Requirements

Current RN license in New York or proof of application (applied date required; NY licensing may take 6–8 weeks)
BLS and ACLS certification
NIHSS required prior to start
Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience
1 year in the PCU or related specialty
Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years
Ability to work in an acute inpatient setting and participate in floating to appropriate units as needed

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care for adult PCU patients with acute cardiac and post-procedure needs
Monitor telemetry, administer insulin and cardiac drips as ordered, start IVs, and assist with post-cath care
Implement unit protocols (insulin drips, cardiac drips, IV starts) and adjust care as patient status changes
Document accurately in the electronic medical record (EPIC) and utilize the MAK medication system
Collaborate with the care team for timely interventions, hemodynamic monitoring, and patient safety
Maintain a 3:1 patient-to-nurse ratio, respond to alarms, and participate in the unit’s float plan when assigned
