About The Position

This is a 16-week (minimum) travel temporary assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Plattsburgh, NY. The role involves providing direct nursing care for adult PCU patients with telemetry and acute needs. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, assessing for clinical changes, administering medications and infusions, managing post-procedure patients, documenting care in the electronic medical record (EPIC), and maintaining patient safety. The nurse will also float to appropriate units as required and adhere to a 3:1 patient-to-nurse ratio. The assignment is for a 3x12 Night shift in a hospital setting with a 341-bed facility and a PCU unit. There are no guaranteed hours for this position.

Requirements

  • Active New York RN license (or proof of application with applied date; NY licensure timeline 6–8 weeks)
  • BLS and ACLS required
  • NIHSS required prior to start
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience
  • EPIC experience within the past 2 years
  • Ability to work in an acute inpatient PCU, including IV starts and post-cath care; capable of handling insulin drips and cardiac drips
  • Special equipment familiarity as appropriate (telemetry, IV pumps, monitors)

  • 1 year of PCU/telemetry experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care for adult PCU patients with telemetry and acute needs
  • Monitor vital signs, assess for clinical changes, and respond to detentions or deteriorations
  • Administer medications and infusions (including insulin and cardiac drips) per protocol; start IVs and monitor infusion therapies
  • Manage post-procedure patients (e.g., post cardiac cath) and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team
  • Document care in the electronic medical record (EPIC) and use the unit’s medication system (MAK); ensure accurate and timely charting
  • Maintain patient safety and comfort, prepare patients for procedures, and participate in patient and family education
  • Float to appropriate units as required by unit needs; adhere to a 3:1 patient-to-nurse ratio on duty
