About The Position

This is a 4-week travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a hospital/acute care unit in Plattsburgh, NY. The role involves providing direct patient care, administering medications, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and responding to critical patient conditions. The nurse will also participate in a resource float model, rotating to appropriate units as needed.

Requirements

  • NY RN license on file at time of submission
  • AHA BLS and AHA ACLS required
  • NIHSS required prior to start
  • Minimum 1 year of Telemetry/PCU experience
  • Registered Nurse with approved nursing degree
  • Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years (nonnegotiable)
  • Ability to start IVs, administer and titrate cardiac/insulin/drips per protocol
  • Telemetry proficient
  • Able to work in a fast-paced acute inpatient PCU environment
  • Willingness to float to appropriate units as part of the float team
  • Responsive to unit needs and patient care priorities

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year in the specialty preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care for adult cardiology and post-acute patients on the PCU, including telemetry monitoring and frequent assessment.
  • Administer medications and drips per protocol (including insulin and cardiac/hemodynamic infusions) and manage IV access (IV starts and venipuncture).
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement care plans; document in the EMR (Epic) and communicate changes to the team.
  • Respond to evolving patient conditions with critical thinking, including hemodynamic instability and need for advanced monitoring.
  • Coordinate care for post-PCI/Stent patients, ACS/vasopressor or inotropic needs, and patients requiring frequent respiratory or neurovascular monitoring.
  • Participate in a resource float model, rotating to appropriate units as needed to meet patient care needs.
