About The Position

This is a 13-week travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in an outpatient perioperative care setting in State College, Pennsylvania. The role focuses on perioperative and PACU nursing responsibilities, supporting patient care in a short-term, acute care outpatient environment. The position involves assessing and responding to patient needs, implementing care plans, administering IV therapy, coordinating with healthcare teams, and providing patient education. Accurate documentation in electronic health records and adherence to safety checks are essential. The role also includes assisting with supplies management and ensuring cost-conscious resource utilization. For PACU assignments, responsibilities include monitoring patients, managing pain, and determining discharge readiness.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license (per state requirements)
  • Ability to work in an outpatient perioperative/PACU environment
  • Proficiency with IV therapy and basic diagnostic processes (labs, radiology, EKG) as part of standard nursing duties
  • Competence with electronic health records and timely, accurate documentation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to educate patients and families
  • Willingness to assist with patient flow and float to support cross-coverage as needed

Responsibilities

  • Assess and respond to the patient’s physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs; advocate for the patient throughout the care continuum.
  • Apply professional nursing judgment to implement care plans and address identified problems, including IV therapy when indicated.
  • Communicate patient assessments and care plans to the appropriate team members to ensure coordinated care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures (labs, radiology, EKG) and participate in perioperative nursing activities, including accurate transcription and execution of orders.
  • Transcribe and implement physicians’ orders in a timely manner; assist with admission to the surgical center and ensure proper documentation, site markings, and coordination with the anesthesiology team.
  • Document in the patient’s electronic health record accurately and promptly; verify required information and ensure all relevant paperwork and safety checks are complete.
  • Provide patient and family education tailored to the care setting; assist with supplies management and maintain cost-conscious use of resources.
  • When assigned to PACU, monitor airway and vital signs, manage pain appropriately, and coordinate with the surgeon and anesthesiologist for any concerns; determine readiness for discharge per criteria.
