About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (OR), specifically in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) in San Luis Obispo, CA. The assignment is for 13 weeks, with a start date of 08/31/2026. The role involves providing nursing care to surgical patients in the immediate preoperative and postoperative period within a recovery-focused unit adjacent to the OR. The nurse will collaborate with the anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure safe and efficient patient recovery.

Requirements

Active Registered Nurse license to practice in California (or eligibility to obtain licensure in CA)
Ability to work 3x12-hour day shifts and respond to emergencies in a fast-paced perioperative environment
Strong clinical assessment, monitoring, and documentation capabilities
Effective communication and teamwork skills with multidisciplinary perioperative teams

Nice To Haves

PACU/OR nursing experience or strong perioperative assessment skills preferred

Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to surgical patients in the immediate preoperative and postoperative period in the PACU recovery area.
Receive patient handoffs from the anesthesia team, surgeon, and/or circulating RN and translate them into an individualized plan of care.
Support perioperative goals: pain control, hemodynamic stability, bleeding management, nausea control, proper positioning, airway management, and Vital sign stabilization.
Monitor and respond to changes in patient status; recognize and intervene in emergencies promptly.
Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses; maintain accurate and compliant care records.
Collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and nursing teammates to ensure safe, efficient recovery and smooth transitions to downstream care.
