About The Position

Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR) in a hospital setting, Kansas City, KS. This is a 13-week travel assignment with a start date of 08/30/2026. The role involves providing direct perioperative nursing care, preparing the OR, maintaining sterile technique, and supporting complex surgical cases, including robotic-assisted procedures. The nurse will collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams, ensure patient safety, manage equipment, and document events. Responsibilities also include accurate instrumentation counts, specimen handling, and responding to intraoperative changes or emergencies. The position may require floating to all ORs and participating in scheduled on-call coverage.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Kansas (KS RN license)
  • AHA BLS certification
  • 2+ years of OR experience
  • Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Strong scrub skills
  • Familiar with DaVinci robotic cases
  • Experience with head/neck, neuro spine, and complex abdominal (e.g., ex-lap) cases preferred
  • Experience in orthopedics, general surgery, trauma, gynecology, urology, and plastics considered
  • Ability to work in an OR setting within a hospital
  • Willing to float to all ORs
  • On-call requirements: up to 6 shifts per 13-week contract; holiday coverage may be required if scheduled
  • RN degree from an accredited program
  • Prior travel experience desired but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing procedures in the OR, including patient positioning, monitoring, and recovery planning.
  • Prepare the OR, maintain sterile technique, and pass instruments during surgery; scrub for cases and assist with room setup and turnovers.
  • Support complex cases and robotic-assisted procedures; assist with DaVinci robot cases and adapt to large head/neck, neuro spine, and other challenging surgeries.
  • Collaborate with the anesthesia team and surgical team to maintain patient safety, manage equipment, and document intraoperative events and post-op care.
  • Ensure accurate instrumentation counts, specimen handling, and postoperative documentation; respond to intraoperative changes and emergencies as needed.
  • May float to all ORs as required; participate in scheduled on-call coverage.
