About The Position

This is a travel assignment for a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at a Short Term Acute Care Hospital in San Luis Obispo, California. The assignment is for 13 weeks, with a start date of 08/31/2026. The role involves providing perioperative nursing care, managing patient conditions in the immediate pre- and post-operative periods, responding to emergencies, administering medications and therapies, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Requirements

Active RN license in the state of practice (California) required
Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) required
Current BLS required
ACLS required
PALS required
TNCC required within 1 year of hire
at least 2 years of recent PACU or critical care experience
minimum 2 years in perioperative recovery recommended

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
Trauma certification preferred
EPIC experience preferred
ability to work in a fast-paced perioperative/post-anesthesia environment

Responsibilities

Provide perioperative nursing care to surgical patients in the immediate preoperative and postoperative period.
Receive and integrate reports from anesthesia, surgeon, and circulating RN into the nursing plan of care; ensure pain, bleeding, and nausea are controlled; proper positioning; airway management; and stabilization of vital signs.
Respond promptly to emergency situations; monitor hemodynamic status; interpret ECG rhythms; manage life-threatening events as needed.
Administer medications, perform IV therapy (including blood products), and care for indwelling catheters and drains; operate and monitor equipment used in the perioperative setting.
Communicate clearly within the care team and follow chain of command; maintain accurate documentation and EPIC charting.
Demonstrate competency across routine nursing skills and adapt care to the post-anesthesia patient population.
