About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) will work in a Level 3 high-risk Labor and Delivery (L&D) environment. The unit is equipped with 17 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, 4 triage beds, and 16 postpartum beds, averaging 250 births per month. The RN will adhere to AWHONN guidelines for patient ratios, providing 2:1 care for normal laboring patients, 1:1 for high-risk laboring patients, 4:1 couplet care, and 2:1 to 4:1 antepartum care depending on patient acuity. Additional duties include circulating and recovering C-Section patients and floating to Mother-Baby and other units as needed. Nurses must be proficient in titrating drips such as Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Insulin, and Heparin. Support staff including Certified Surgical Techs, secretaries, OB/Neonatologist, and Anesthesia are available 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment is available, but patients requiring artificial ventilation will be transferred to the ICU. Nurses are responsible for reading their own fetal monitoring strips using the Cerner system and must possess ACLS and AFM certification. Telemetry monitors are managed remotely by RNs from the ICU. The facility uses a TEAM scheduling system with a scheduling committee to balance self-scheduling requests. Weekend and holiday shifts may be required, and nurses may float to postpartum units. Orientation for travelers lasts three days. This position may require flexibility as the facility can cancel shifts.
