About The Position

To provide occupational and environmental health nursing services to employees and prospective employees in a variety of age groups by performing varied occupational health services and functions in accordance with licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements. To respond effectively to new and changing working environments. To bear the primary responsibility and accountability for the occupational and environmental health nursing services that employees receive in the Employee Health Department.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing or graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelors Degree in a healthcare related field.
• Evidence of continuing professional education.
• Five years experience as a medical/surgical nurse, a portion of which should be in the outpatient setting.
• Computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, and Email.
• Physical requirements necessitate a full range of body motion including but not limited to, physically assisting patients, requiring stretching, bending, lifting, sitting, kneeling, stooping, standing, walking, pushing and pulling.
• Position is classified according to the USDOL as Very Heavy Work which is defined as exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination are also required.
• Constant talking and listening in English.
• Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, including speech clarity, understanding the information relayed, deductive and inductive reasoning skills.
• Considerable walking, standing, sitting, reaching, filing, typing and photocopying required.
• Ability to perform work accurately and pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
• Ability to function competently in stressful situations and changing work environment related to changing needs of patients with acute, chronic and complex and/or terminal disease processes.
• Ability to work cooperatively within health system, multidisciplinary team members (i.e. MD’s, Rehab, Respiratory, DI, Laboratory, etc).
• Ability to utilize effective time management skills to set priorities to perform responsibilities, problem solve and deliver care.
• Current Occupational Health Nurse Certification or OHNC Certification within 2 years of hire into the position.
• CPR (BCLS) Certification with AED Certification, Venipuncture.
• Ability to travel to and work at various locations throughout the day.
• Must be available to work flexible hours including all shifts/days.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in occupational health preferred.
• Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, rules, requirements of Infection Control, Health & Wellness, Case Management, Medical Surveillance.
• Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, rules, requirements of the following within two years of employment: Occupational Health and Safety, federal, state and private agency workplace regulations to include OSHA, ADA, FMLA, STD/LTD, Drug and Alcohol testing, Respirator Fit testing, Employee Assistance Program, Travel Medicine, Disability Management, Workers Compensation and Fitness for Duty.
