About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular part-time Registered Nurse (Donor Centre Nurse) to join their dynamic Collections team at the ON-Scarborough donor centre. The Collections team is responsible for safely collecting donor blood and blood components to provide patients with lifesaving products daily. In this role, the nurse will assist in the collection of blood and blood products, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and completing all required documentation. The position plays an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Requirements

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience working as a nurse.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional donor experience by using strong communication and client service skills to conduct registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust.
  • Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • Apply experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance by maintaining complete and precise records across multiple systems, including screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • At mobile events within our communities, assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.
