About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Donor Centre Nurse to join their dynamic Collections team in their SK-Regina-Albert St donor centre. The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols, and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Requirements

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience working as a nurse is considered an asset.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is an asset.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional donor experience by using your strong communication and client service skills to conduct registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust.
  • Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • Perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Maintain complete and precise records across multiple systems, including screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment.
  • Share your knowledge and support best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • Assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use at mobile events within our communities.
