About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Donor Centre Nurse to join their dynamic Collections team in the SK-Saskatoon donor centre. The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services in collecting donor blood and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, the nurse will assist in the collection of blood and blood products, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and all required documentation is carried out. The nurse will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Requirements

  • Completion of accredited nursing program and current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems and programs.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of experience working as a nurse is considered an asset
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is an asset.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with coaching others is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver an exceptional donor experience by using your strong communication and client service skills to conduct registration and confidential screening, ensuring eligibility and fostering trust.
  • Educate and empower donors by providing clear information, instructions, and guidance on blood donations and other ways to support Canada’s Lifeline.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to donor centre staff, acting as team lead for collection events as needed.
  • Apply experience and training in phlebotomy to perform venipuncture according to established standards, monitoring donors for safety and comfort, and providing post-donation care and instruction.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance by maintaining complete and precise records across multiple systems, including screening, collection, product storage, sample preparation, and packaging for shipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing knowledge and supporting best practices that enhance processes and elevate the donor experience.
  • At mobile events within our communities, assist in setting up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are properly set up for use.
