About The Position

Registered Nurse – Charge Acute Care in Olympia, WA. This is a temporary assignment starting 09/09/2026 on a 3x12-day shift. The work setting is a hospital unit combining long-length-of-stay and acute medical care for adults and geriatrics, including patients with dementia, autism, or behavioral health needs. The nurse may float to similar med-surg units as needed to support staffing. The assignment includes 12 hours of on-site orientation and approximately 16 hours of pre-start modules.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Washington state
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg/Acute care experience
  • Experience with heavy-care patients and cognitive/behavioral issues (dementia, autism, psych presentations)
  • Ability to float to like-med/surg units as needed; comfortable with patient lifts and mobility equipment
  • EPIC charting experience or willingness to learn; strong communication and teamwork skills
  • 2 professional references within the last 3 years
  • Ability to work 3x12-day shifts
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • Approximately 16 hours of pre-start modules
  • 12 hours of on-site orientation
  • Permanent residence must be more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

  • LTAC experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, including those with dementia, autism, or behavioral health needs, in a med-surg/acute setting.
  • Serve as charge nurse on assigned shifts: coordinate care, delegate tasks, and communicate with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer medications and therapies; manage IV lines and ports; monitor patient status and respond to changes in condition.
  • Perform and supervise wound care, ostomy/PEG care, and basic respiratory support including oxygen therapy as needed.
  • Support discharge planning and transitions to long-term care or adult family homes; coordinate with PT, respiratory, social services, and case management.
  • Document thoroughly in the electronic charting system and ensure continuity of care across shifts; participate in rounds and safety checks.
