About The Position

Smithfield Foods is seeking a driven and motivated Sales professional to join their team. This role combines strategic planning, team leadership, and hands-on sales execution for a specific territory. As a Sales Team member, your primary responsibility will be introducing and placing new products with customers, executing organizational initiatives, and driving sales on key items with strategic customers for long-term growth. You will work directly with customers and cross-functionally with teams from Business Management to Plant Operations to deliver service and products to customers and consumers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years’ relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership required.
  • Must understand the dynamics of the Consumer Packaged Goods industry.
  • Must have a solid understanding of customer focused and fact based selling, including IRI, Nielsen and Perishable Group data.
  • Understanding of product cuttings – comfort and knowledge of product attributes.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.
  • Work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Willing and able to travel at least 50%

Responsibilities

  • Achieve regional sales goals and growth through effective sales planning and execution.
  • Work with members of the sales team to achieve sales targets.
  • Emphasize growth through the development of new customers as well as the maintenance and expansion of existing ones.
  • Introduce and place new products with customers.
  • Execute business initiatives and drive sales of key items with customers for long-term growth.
  • Collaborate directly with broker partners to drive consumer packaged goods execution, distribution, and new item placement in the territory.
  • Increase distribution of product lines by managing Smithfield’s Broker relationships.
  • Train and monitor the sales activities of Broker representatives to ensure consistency in selling products.
  • Plan for regional sales and assist with sales proposal developments, sales presentations, and sales calls.
  • Provide sales training to Brokers on new and existing products for sales presentations.
  • Direct broker teams through meeting attendance and work within the market to drive company initiatives in store.
  • Meet directly with customers and key decision makers to maintain and increase sales of Smithfield products.
  • Develop and make formal presentations and/or proposals.
  • Provide samples and may demonstrate the use of specific items as part of the sales process.
  • Determine and drive execution of key programs based on regions’ needs and requirements (sales incentives, account specific marketing programs, etc.).
  • Implement and execute Smithfield sales plans to promote product lines.
  • Customize plans to meet the local and regional marketing cultures.
  • Assist sales and brokers in developing and executing sales promotions of products.
  • Utilize syndicated data and all resources to drive sales plans.
  • Maintain coordination with integral company functions to ensure sales objectives are met.
  • Drive a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee development and coaching.
