About The Position

The Regional Medical Scientific Director (RMSD) – Cardiovascular & Metabolism is a credentialed therapeutic and disease expert who engages in scientific exchange with leaders in the external medical and scientific community. The RMSD provides balanced, factual scientific information about non-product areas of interest to the company, responds to scientific questions from scientific leaders (SLs), including questions about company products, and aligns work to four core pillars: Scientific Exchange, Clinical Research, Scientific Congress Support, and Scientific Insights. This role covers Michigan and Northern Ohio; the person must reside in the territory. It is remote and requires travel of up to 50%. Scientific exchange includes building professional relationships with national and regional SLs, conducting peer-to-peer scientific discussions, answering scientific questions, directing inquiries outside the RMSD’s scope to appropriate company resources, and completing HQ-directed education and training. Scientific exchange does not include promotional claims. RMSDs have no sales objectives or responsibility for prescribing or sales, and may not advise on the diagnosis or treatment of an individual patient. The RMSD serves as a liaison between the scientific community and the company regarding the scientific foundations and goals of approved, in-development, and active company-sponsored trials and investigator-sponsored research. At the request of relevant clinical and scientific affairs groups, the RMSD may identify barriers to patient enrollment and retention, recommend sites and potential investigators, answer investigator questions, and discuss research alignment, study concepts, scientific merit, and investigator qualifications. The role also supports scientific congresses through preparation, scientific and data exchange concerning company and competitor data, insight gathering, and booth staffing as applicable. The RMSD gathers feedback and information about healthcare practitioner and patient medical or scientific needs, priorities, and concerns, and serves as a role model for field medical colleagues, including through onboarding and therapeutic training.
