About The Position

Bristol Hospice is seeking a Regional Human Resources (HR) Director to provide HR support to its East Region U.S. locations, including Northeast and Southeast States. This role is central to the organization's growth, partnering with leaders to scale teams, align practices, and support evolving markets. The ideal candidate will have experience navigating diverse markets, regulations, and teams to support expansion and high-quality care delivery nationwide. The position requires flexibility to scale up as needed and a global mindset as part of a nationwide team. Candidates must reside in the Eastern Time Zone.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in a regional or multi-site leadership capacity.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills—calm under pressure, objective in approach.
  • Experience across all HR functional areas: Employee Relations, Employment Law, Compliance, Risk Management, HR Operations, Talent Management, Benefits (Accommodations), understanding of LOA and Workers Comp, basic payroll knowledge, Mergers & Acquisitions and Start-ups.
  • Hands-on with HR tech: HRIS, ATS, payroll systems.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to influence through metrics.
  • A confident, adaptable presence—able to navigate complex situations with professionalism and poise.
  • Emotional intelligence and resilience—lead with empathy, but stay grounded and solution-focused.
  • A dynamic communication style—clear, compelling, and able to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Expert-level knowledge of employment law, with the ability to interpret, apply, and advise on complex regulatory requirements confidently.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach.
  • Expert in delivering compelling presentations and leveraging storytelling techniques to engage and influence your target audience.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced environments.
  • High emotional intelligence with a balanced, assertive communication style.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and data analytics tools.
  • Deep knowledge of employment law.
  • Proven ability to present to executive leadership and influence decision-making.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% - 50% for work-related activities.
  • MUST RESIDE IN THE EASTERN TIME ZONE.

Nice To Haves

  • HR Certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare or hospice industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders at all levels to align HR strategies with business objectives.
  • Lead regional HR initiatives that reflect Bristol’s mission and Core Values.
  • Provide guidance on compensation, benefits, and performance management practices.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition Director, Payroll Director, and Benefits Manager for seamless execution.
  • Provide direct leadership and guidance to the HR Generalist or HR Advisor assigned to the region.
  • Forecast staffing needs and support recruitment strategies.
  • Identify high-potential talent and support succession planning.
  • Approve status changes, transfers, and significant staffing updates.
  • Review, approve, and make recommendations on compensation requests (promotions, demotions, market adjustments, merit increases).
  • Assist locations in gathering competitive compensation data from the local healthcare market.
  • Partner with payroll and benefits teams for accurate and timely administration.
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations issues, including EEOC and compliance-related matters.
  • Approve discharge requests and ensure fair, objective handling of disciplinary actions.
  • Champion employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs across the region.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, especially California-specific regulations.
  • Maintain and update HR policies to reflect regulatory changes and best practices.
  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends using HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Use data to influence decisions, recommend solutions, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage the HR department budget for the region.
  • Monitor expenses and provide insights on market trends and cost drivers.
  • Facilitate training, certification, and professional development for HR team members.
  • Promote a culture of learning, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Manage Mergers & Acquisitions experience, including due diligence, integration planning, and post-close execution.
  • Support acquisitions, divestitures, or business integrations in a multi-site healthcare environment.
  • Partner with senior leadership during M&A lifecycle events.
