About The Position

As a Refractory Technician at Bloom Engineering, a Wabtec Company, you will prepare, install, and finish refractory linings used in combustion burners. The work includes preparing molds, mixing and pouring refractory material, assembling and disassembling forms, and ensuring work meets the product application’s quality requirements. This is a Monday–Friday, first-shift position paying $35.24 per hour.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 2 years of experience with refractory, concrete, or similar work.
• Ability to read blueprints.
• Attention to detail and ability to accurately follow instructions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with power mixers, vibrating equipment, and oven-curing processes.
• Ability to work effectively in a unionized team environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret charts and engineering drawings to select and assemble molds, forms, plugs, and pins.
• Assemble molds and forms, including pouring and stripping molds.
• Clean forms, molds, and parts.
• Oil or grease molds, forms, and plugs; wrap pins, plugs, and cores, oiling and greasing as needed.
• Use power mixers to mix castable materials with water to the required consistency.
• Hand-mix refractory material for component application.
• Fill assembled molds and forms with refractory material to produce durable linings that withstand high temperatures.
• Apply coating to lined burners, baffles, and other components.
• Use vibrating equipment to eliminate voids.
• Finish refractory material and remove rough or irregular areas to produce smooth, high-quality surfaces.
• Select the appropriate oven-curing program to support material integrity and longevity.
• Disassemble molds and remove forms, plugs, pins, and wedges.
• Clean lined pieces.
• Clean and maintain tools, molds, the filter press, and equipment used in the refractory process.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
• Complete reports as required.
• Accurately and promptly log time spent on each job.
• Complete the fork truck log when using the fork truck.
