About The Position

Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and award-winning agency with a mission to provide high quality, diverse, and accessible community-based programs, activities, and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation. The Department is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and energetic Recreation Supervisor to lead operations within our Community Facilities and Programs team. This role requires a proactive leader with strong organizational skills, a passion for community engagement, and the ability to oversee staff, programs, and facility operations. The ideal candidate will be skilled in planning and delivering diverse recreational services, managing day-to-day logistics, and fostering inclusive, vibrant community spaces.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree
Four (4) years of related professional experience in the recreational field.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Possession of a valid Class “C” (or equivalent) driver’s license

Responsibilities

Leading staff, including training, coaching/mentoring, performance management, timekeeping, scheduling, and conduct oversight.
Planning, organizing, and evaluating center operations and programs, and implementing corrective actions when needed.
Addressing customer inquiries and concerns with timely, thoughtful responses.
Researching trends and developing marketing strategies to promote recreational, educational, sports, and youth-serving programs.
Designing and managing community-based programs with clear goals and measurable outcomes.
Participating in budget development, monitoring expenditures, and using data to guide decisions.
Overseeing program promotion, scheduling, and execution in alignment with departmental priorities.
Communicating effectively both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
Foster a positive labor relations environment grounded in mutual trust, respect, and collaboration.
Model professionalism, consistency, and a strong work ethic to maintain seasonal workforce stability.
Provide clear guidance, support, and motivation to your team in achieving shared goals.
