About The Position

Under general supervision of the Recreation Programs Manager, this role manages the planning, developing, supervising, and implementing family recreation, and aquatic programs associated with the Addison Athletic Club and in the Town of Addison Parks. The position involves researching, planning, designing, and implementing a full range of active, social, educational, and wellness programs for families of all ages. It also includes managing contracts with outside vendors, maintaining budgets, promoting and marketing programs, and acting as a liaison between participants and the Recreation Department. The role requires supervising assigned staff, researching liability issues, and performing related duties as required. Specific responsibilities include managing water chemistry, monitoring pool equipment, and ensuring the cleanliness of facilities. The position may also involve performing additional job duties for special events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Education, Sports or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in recreation programming, supervising staff and volunteers, or leading fitness programming.
  • Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED, Aquatic Facility Operator certified or obtain within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of recreational and pool management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Parks and Recreation services and the important role they play in the community.
  • Knowledge of marketing methods.
  • Knowledge of supervisory leadership, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of leadership experience and knowledge of fitness and health programming.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skilled in creating marketing materials.
  • Skilled in interacting with the public professionally and tactfully.
  • Skilled in demonstrating the proper use of recreation and aquatic equipment and exercise machines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in aquatic facility and/or recreation facility programming and experience with aquatic pump and mechanical maintenance and repair.
  • Prefer a current certification from one of the following: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard, and/or Water Safety Instructor.
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Research, plan, design and implement a full range of active, social, educational, and wellness programs for families of all ages.
  • Advertise for and secure agreements with and direct outside vendors to ensure recreation and aquatics initiatives and department initiatives are being met.
  • Manage contracts with outside vendors and ensure contract obligations are being met.
  • Maintain budgets for assigned programs; research and purchase new and replacement equipment and supplies.
  • Promote and market club-related and town-related recreational programs and special events; research new marketing opportunities; act as a liaison between participants and the Recreation Department; address and resolve issues and concerns.
  • Participate in implementing and supervising programs and activities as needed.
  • Instruct classes or lead programs as needed.
  • Manage, train, and supervise assigned staff; may participate in the new hire process; make recommendations for disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Research liability issues and update policies and procedures as appropriate to uphold appropriate standard of safety and care.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required.
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned.
  • Meet and greet the public; answer telephones; reserve facilities on request; input and retrieve computer data; prepare various reports and schedules; draft memos and promotional materials.
  • Verify water chemistry is compliant with State regulations; monitor condition of pool equipment to ensure it is functioning properly; coordinate with pool vendors to repair equipment and order pool chemicals.
  • Monitor condition of aquatic equipment and ensure it is functioning properly; coordinate repairs either in-house or with vendors.
  • Monitor areas for cleanliness and coordinate cleaning with in-house staff or contracted cleaning service.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
