About The Position

The City of Berkeley is hiring a Recreation Program Supervisor to plan, supervise, organize, and direct recreation and athletic operations and programs, including recreation and camp facilities and swimming pools. The ideal candidate is an organized, experienced recreation professional with administrative and leadership skills in budget development and oversight, program marketing and promotion, and staff supervision and development. The role calls for managing multiple programs and priorities, developing and implementing operational goals, and supporting staff in delivering high-quality recreation services. The successful candidate will be a collaborative, resourceful, and forward-thinking leader who uses sound judgment, demonstrates accountability, and is committed to serving Berkeley’s diverse community. A typical qualification pathway is a four-year college or university degree with major coursework in recreation, social science, business or public administration, or a related field, plus four years of progressively responsible professional recreation administrative experience that includes budget and program development. At least two years of that experience must include supervisory responsibility. Additional experience administering a recreation program may substitute for education year for year. The position requires a valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. The employee must be able to travel within and outside City limits and work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as duties require. Employment is subject to applicable requirements concerning fingerprinting and background checks. City employees are required to serve as Disaster Service Workers during an emergency or disaster.
